Barbara Alley Obituary

ALLEY, Barbara (Wright), age 81, of Amelia, VA passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017 surrounded by her loved ones after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Barbara was bornNovember 15, 1935 in Ivanhoe, VA. She was a graduate of George Wythe High School. She married the love of her life and hometown sweetheart, Richard Alley Sr on October 8, 1955 and shortly after moved to Richmond where they had two children, Sherry and Richard Jr (Ricky). She came from humble beginnings, but had a brilliant mind. Instead of going to the local high school she opted to attend the a specialty high school where they offered business classes. She excelled in typing and the lost art of short-hand. She worked for various companies in Richmond and eventually retired from Union Camp.

Barbara loved the color blue, Cherished Teddy Bears and The Atlanta Braves. She was passionate about her family and was a natural caregiver as she was her mother’s sole caregiver for over 20 years. Her true joy in life was when she became a grandmother. If ever a person was meant to be a grandmother, Barbara was that person. There wasn’t a graduation, wedding or birth she missed and it was her last wish to attend her youngest granddaughter’s upcoming wedding at the end of September. In recent years she had the privilege of becoming a great-grandmother. If you met her you loved her - simple as that. She was selfless, kind, loving and an incredible listener.

Barbara is survived by her two children, Sherry Beran (Danny) of Powhatan, VA and Richard Alley Jr. (Susan) of Amelia, Va; five grandchildren, Kristin Krupp (Bryan) of Powhatan, Va, Casie Woodfin (William) of Midlothian, Va, Benjamin Beran (Jamie) of Powhatan, Va, Joseph Beran of Chesterfield, Va, and Nicole Alley (Donnie) of Amelia, Va; great-grandchildren Jacob Beran, Anders Krupp and Alley Woodfin; sister-in-law, Mickey Alley; and special niece Sharon Thompson (Mark) and great nieces Carolyn, Lydia and Christina Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Alley Sr; her mother, Gertrude Wright; her father, Harold Wright and her brother, Jackie Wright.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the American Lung Association. The family would like to thank Lisa and Jerry Morgan, Dr. Sarna and James River Hospice for their extraordinary care.
