Willie Hicks 85 passed away on July 17, 2017 at Chippenham Hospital after several Illnesses. He was preceded in death by his parents Bailey and Tressie Hicks, brother, Winfred, sister Lolas Hicks Brandt and his only son Joseph W. Hicks. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Christine Joyce Hicks, daughters Joan Hicks Smith, Ginger Boyles (David) , Kelly Steele (Lester), Step-daughter Marsha Bishop Busic, Grandchildren, Kippy Smith, Williamsburg, Va. Bobby Lee Golding, Phoenix, AZ, Christina and Danielle Boyles, Amelia, Va., Holly and Jeffery Steele, Amelia, Va., Great Grandsons, Dylan Golding, Sandston, Va., and Preston Owens, Amelia, Va. Nieces, Marsha Thomas, Judy Owens, of Newport News and Robin Overby of Henrico, Va. Special friend, Alfred Hewett, Sedley, Va. Willie was an Army veteran of the Korean War 1948 – 1952. After returning home to Newport News he worked as a firefighter/EMT for the city of Newport News for 11 years. Then in 1968 he moved with his family to Amelia County where he worked for the Postal Service, Defense General Supply Center and State of VA. After retiring he worked as an independent contractor until he retired completely.He enjoyed traveling, camping, and his favorite sport of golf. He enjoyed staying on the Outer Banks for approximately 20 years. He was a very talented man that had a creative mind of making the unusual. He never hired anyone to make repairs as he loved fixing everything himself. Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Thursday July 20, at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home 16409 Court St. in Amelia with military honors following the service. Burial will follow at Mattoax Cemetery in Amelia. The family will receive friends at 10 AM prior to the service.
