Obituary

Ingram, Althea Babcock, of Amelia, joined the Heavenly choir on January 16, 2021, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Amelia County September 30, 1925 to the late John Berry Babcock and Blanche Hooper Babcock. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, John Webster Ingram, in 1997. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Earl, Edward, Harold and Daniel, and her sisters Ida Inman, Francelia Grey, and Dorothy Finch.

She is survived by her son David (Betty), her grandchildren Kimberly Whitley (Jim) and David Sean, and her great grandson Thomas Whitley as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

After working at Perdue Grocery and Union Bank and Trust Company in Amelia, she retired and dedicated the rest of her life to her three great loves, family, cooking and singing.

She was raised in a family that sang and played music. After singing in the Baptist choir, she joined the choir at Trinity United Methodist Church in 1955. There, she sang in the choir and special community events. Even at the Nursing Home she continued to sing with their resident group and church services.

At home, she continued the cooking traditions of her mother. Her house became the meeting place for both her family and her husband's on the major holidays with as many as 50 plus persons gathering for meals. Any guest visiting near mealtime was always cajoled into taking a place at the table. Living next door to her son meant most suppers were family meals and she was able to assist in the raising and spoiling of the grandchildren.

The family expresses much appreciation to Wellsprings of Amelia Nursing Home and Hospice of Virginia for the care and attention shown to Althea and her family.

Following her wishes, services will be graveside only, at the Presbyterian Cemetery in Amelia Court House, January 22nd at 2:00 PM. A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date at Trinity Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Trinity Methodist Church.

The music of the heavenly spheres has a new alto.
