Anna Owens Turner, 85, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2009. Ann was born May 4, 1924 in Indiana. After a childhood spent primarily in Bowling Green, Kentucky, she earned a registered nursing degree from the Louisville School of Nursing in 1946. Ann then moved to Charlottesville, Virginia to obtain her Bachelors in Nursing Education at the University of Virginia. With a new degree in hand, she traveled to Richmond, Virginia to pursue a permanent nursing position. It was there that a close friend introduced Ann to her future husband, Ralph G. Turner. Ralph and Ann married in 1952 and eventually settled in Amelia, Virginia where they raised their three children. Ann worked at McGuires Veterans Administration Hospital in Richmond for over 25 years. She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Mark Cirelly of Alloway, New Jersey; son David L. Turner and his wife, Cindy, of Richmond, Virginia; and son James C. (J.C.) Turner, of Nassawadox, Virginia. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 22, from 6-8 Oclock at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home in Amelia. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 23, at 11:00.
