**Obituary for Barbara Ann Metheny**

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Barbara Ann Metheny, beloved mother, cherished grandmother, and devoted friend, who left this world on December 23, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on October 25, 1940, in Virginia, Barbara spent her life nurturing the hearts and souls of those around her, creating a home filled with love and warmth.

A proud homemaker, Barbara found her greatest joy in her family. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Metheny, and her parents James Robert Moore and Elsie Raikes Moore. She leaves behind her daughters, Robin Poole and Donna Spector, who carry forward her legacy of compassion and resilience. The laughter and innocence of her four grandchildren brought her immense happiness, as she cherished every moment spent in their company, gardening together and creating beautiful memories.

In addition to her profound role as a mother and grandmother, Barbara enjoyed her time working at JC Penney, where she fostered friendships that enriched her life. Her active membership at Arbor Baptist Church was a testament to her strong faith and commitment to her community, as she found solace and companionship in the fellowship of others.

Barbara's family invites friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating her life. The family will receive friends on Friday December 26th from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, 16409 Court St. in Amelia. A funeral service will be held at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home on Saturday December 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Arbor Baptist Church

As we mourn the loss of an exceptional woman, we remember the laughter she brought into our lives, the beauty she cultivated in her garden, and the love she endlessly shared. Barbara Ann Metheny will be forever missed, yet her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
