Barbara Rea Jones Rowe, aged 76, of Burkeville, VA, joined her husband Bert in death on May 25 , 2015. After graduating in the last class at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Richmond, she was commissioned a first lieutenant in the Air Force, and then dedicated all her adult life to nursing. She was often seen in Amelia treating home-health patients and chaperoning for the Hamner Library Teen Council. In later life, she enjoyed frequent trips around the country and abroad with her daughter, Dora Rowe. She is also survived by her almost daughter, Becky Russell, and her baby brother, Charles Christy Jones (Christine). In addition, she leaves behind her five nephews: John Michael Rowe (Debbie), David Winfield Rowe (Martha), David Monroe Jones (Mamie), Johnathan Michael Jones (Judi), and Nelson Scott Jones (Leigh Ann) and numerous great and double-great nieces and nephews. Her niece, Katherine Anne Bess preceded her in death. Visitation will be held on June 11 from 6 pm to 8 pm, and her memorial service will be on June 12 at 1 pm at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery.
