Obituary

Cecil Harding Davis, age 92, of Amelia, beloved son of Ellwood and Lois Davis, was born on July 19, 1932, and passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025. A dedicated dairy farmer and cherished member of Amelia Baptist Church for many decades, Cecil lived a life grounded in hard work, faith, and community spirit. Cecil's unwavering commitment to the land he plowed and the animals he tended shaped not only his way of life but also the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. His humble beginnings gave way to a legacy of love and resilience that will endure in the hearts of his family and friends. He rejoiced in the simple pleasures-a morning spent in the fields, the warmth of Sunday service, and the laughter shared with those he held dear. Preceded in death by his devoted wife, Mary, his parents Elwood and Lois Davis and his brother Ellwood B. Davis. Cecil leaves behind his beloved sister, Lynda Lee (Bill) of Harrisonburg; his brother, Eugene Davis of Midlothian; his cousin, Paul Puckett (Karen) of Amelia; along with many nieces and nephews. Each of them carries a piece of Cecil's gentle spirit within them, woven into the fabric of the lives they continue to lead. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a public viewing at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home on May 5, 2025, from 6-8:00 pm. A funeral service to honor Cecil's life and legacy will be held at the same location on May 6, 2025, at 11:00 am. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Salem Methodist Cemetery, where the whispers of the wind will carry his memory to the fields that were his life's work. Cecil Harding Davis lived with humility and grace, and as we gather to celebrate his life, let us remember the farmer, the faithful church member, and the man who sowed love in every heart he touched. In the quiet moments of reflection, may we find comfort in the simple, profound truth that Cecil's spirit will forever roam the fields he cherished.
