CHARLES R. "RED' STONE

VIRGINIA BEACH - Charles R. "Red" Stone passed away on June 15, 2018 at the age of 80.  Red was born and raised in the town of Amelia Court House, VA.  Red was the type of person that never met a stranger, and was well known and liked in his home town.  He was the epitome of the self-made man.   One of Red's first jobs was a mechanic at a gas station in Amelia.   He ended up owning that station, as well as the local Ford dealership, and many other local properties.  Red found his niche in buying and selling farms and timber tracts in the counties around Amelia, and he was his happiest when making a deal.

Red was an enthusiastic and loyal supporter of Liberty University in Lynchburg.  He had a close personal relationship with the Falwells, and Liberty lost a great supporter and friend.

In his later years, Red became a part-time resident of Westminster Canterbury on the Bay in Virginia Beach, VA.  While there, he made many friends and became a major donor to its Foundation and other causes.  His most recent contribution to Westminster was to underwrite the new Stone Rehabilitation Center that will be completed there next month.

Red was predeceased by his parents, James E. Stone and Norma Redford Stone, and his brother James Elbert Stone, Jr.  He is survived by his daughter, Anne Paige Griffin, his sisters Patricia Stone Hobson, and Lucy Page Wagner (Frank C.), and many special nieces and nephews.  A visitation will be held at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home in Amelia on Tuesday, June 19 at 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  A funeral will be held at the Amelia Baptist Church in Amelia on Wednesday, June 20 at 2:00 o'clock.  Burial will follow the ceremony in the Moore's Methodist Cemetery.  Donations can be made to the Amelia Baptist Church, 9101 Amelia St, Amelia 23002, or your favorite charity in Red's name.
