"Blue" Hardy
March 5, 1931 – September 3, 2011
Claude Havens Blue Hardy, age 80, of Amelia, passed away on Saturday, September 3. He was born on March 5, 1931, in Amelia, Virginia, the son of the late Walter Blanton and Ada Havens Hardy. Surviving to honor his memory is his wife of 59 years, Billie M. Hardy; two daughters, Carla H. Reames (W. T.), Laura H. Dille (John); one sister, Nancy H. Smith (Dale); six grandsons, Will Reames IV (Katie), Andrew Reames, Matthew Reames, Stephen Reames, John Dille IV and Martin Dille; one great-grandson, Layton Emmett Reames; two nieces, Lee Smith & Lydia Smith-McMillion; and four great nieces and nephews, Christopher Anderson, Jessica Anderson, Hardy Lee McMillion and Franklin McMillion III. Blue served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1953. He was a lifelong member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church. He owned and operated a bulldozing- land clearing business; was the original manager of the Amelia Sanitary Landfill, and was an independent contractor with Amelia TDS Telephone Company for 25 years. He enjoyed bird hunting, fishing and was an avid golfer. Blue will be remembered as a fair and honorable man, a loyal friend with a kind heart and a special gift for storytelling. A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 10 at 12 noon at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home 16409 Court Street, Amelia VA with visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tabernacle United Methodist Church or the Amelia Rescue Squad
