Doris Josephine Berrier, age 79, of Portsmouth, formerly of Amelia Count departed this life on May 24, 2014. She was born September 29, 1934 to Thomas Jefferson Berrier and Dorsia Leonard Berrier. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Marvin Berrier, Carl Berrier (Etta) and Ray Berrier (Ginny) and her brother-in-law, Gonjoe Anderson. After graduating from High School she became a teller for the Union Trust Bank for over ten years. After working the printing business she joined the State Board of Pharmacy as a drug auditor. She then became an inspector for the Health Regulatory Board maintaining an office in her home in Portsmouth. She retired as a senior inspector after 30 years of service. She is survived by her sister, Mabel Anderson of Amelia County, nieces, Deborah Orr (Wayne), Susan Watkins (Maxwell), Wray Hughes, Kathy Sperling (Ron), and Paula Parsons (Russell), nephews, Keith Anderson (Beverly), Jeff Anderson (Beth), and Brad Berrier (Karen) and her longtime friend and caregiver Margaret Richards. She was affectionately known as "Tootsie" to her friends and loved her Cerulean Silky Terriers and enjoyed a successful show career touring with her dogs via motor home skillfully maneuvering a large RV through many states. She was a member of the Silky Terrier Club of America and the Chesapeake Dog Fanciers Association. She was an avid gardener in her yard and was a softball and left handed golfer. The family wishes to thank the Anytime Health Care and Bon Secours Hospice for their help. Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday May 28, 2014 at the Pine Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30-12:30 at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home 16409 Court St. in Amelia prior to the services at Pine Grove Cemetery.
