Elwood "Woody" Weaver, age 77 of Amelia, died on July 30, 2013.  He is preceded in death by his wife Peggie Lee Lynch Weaver and is survived by his sons, Elwood James Weaver (Darlene) and Allen Ray Weaver (Debbie) and daughter Julie Ann Weaver Ashman (Johnny) all of Amelia; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren; siblings predeceased Kalsey Smith and Jessie Weaver, along with siblings Alvis Weaver of Chesterfield, Mavis Wilson of Blackstone and Harrison Weaver of Amelia.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 1, 2013 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, 16409 Court St. in Amelia.  A chapel service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 2 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Salem United Methodist Cemetery.  Woody Weaver was born in Orange County, Virginia to Della Blanche Smith and Ray Leonard Weaver on January 26, 1936.  His childhood was spent in the mountains learning to hunt, fish, sing, and tell stories handed down through generations.  He entertained us with mountain stories, songs and especially his cooking.  Strong-willed but soft-hearted, he often helped out his brothers and sisters, nieces, and nephews in need.  He worked hard during the week and played hard during on the weekend.  He was an accomplished landscaper in Chesterfield for 40 years in areas such as Indian Springs, Meadowbrook, and Braxton.  On Saturday nights he would dance, and quite the dancer he was on the dance hall floor.  But above all the mountain ways were engrained in his soul, and anyone who knew him was also touched by the mountains of his past forefathers forever.
