Obituary

Frances Mae Hobdy, 84, of Amelia was welcomed into heaven with open arms on July 19th, 2024. Frances was born on May 21st, 1940 to Bessie Duffy Murray and Willie Dodd Murray and grew up in Chase City. Frances was a deeply spiritual woman who shared God's love with others. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and was loved and admired by many. The impact of Frances' life will be felt for years to come. If Frances was not sharing her love of God, you could catch her in the garden, drinking a coca-cola, always feeding the stray cats in the neighborhood, singing and dancing with all of the ones she loved most. Frances was an example of a woman driven by her purpose and faith in God. She would always challenge those around her to be the best version of themselves. Though she had a tough exterior, her heart was of gold. She would never hesitate to give her last to someone in need. She was an angel handpicked for us all here on earth. Frances' legacy will live on forever through the many stories she shared and the memories of those who had the opportunity to know her. Frances will be remembered for her quick wit and ability to give everyone the best hugs and advice. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her devoted husband, Dennis Hobdy; children, Donna Bryant (David), Ricky Lindsey (Debbie), Diane Davis; sister Pauline Wilmouth; grandchildren, John Lindsey Jr. (Lisa), Travis Lindsey, Ashlie Thompson (Steven), Heather Huddleston (Justin), Ricky Lee Lindsey, Lindsay White (Billy), Lori Rodas (Ruben); great grandchildren Trevor, JJ, Aubreigh, Olivia, Everleigh, Abrielle, Adelina, Tyler, Kendall, Alice, Cutler, River, and Riley. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Bessie Murray, and Willie Murray; former husband John William Lindsey; siblings Raymond; Aubrey; Frankie; Billy; Elsie; Marie, daughter Elma Lindsey; son John Wayne Lindsey Sr (Ann Lindsey); grandson Troy Lindsey; and grandson Collin Davis. "Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.' " John 11:25-26 Viewing and Service will be at Hillsman Hix Funeral Home in Amelia County starting at 11:00am on July 25, 2024, with funeral services at 12 noon, to be followed by a graveside service at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at 1:00pm.
