Obituary

Garland Lee King, 62, passed peacefully in his home on Thursday, October 27, 2011 after a short illness. Born February 7, 1949 in Farmville, VA, he was the son of Elizabeth Lavern King and the late Stacy Waldon King. He is survived by his two daughters Katharine King Schofell (Hugh) and Stacey King Pedigo (Art); four grandchildren, Delaney and Michael Schofell and Sydney and Jacob Pedigo; his dear friend and long time companion Elaine DeAtley, four sisters: Barbara Ward, Doris Ruiz (Phil), Evelyn Adams (Terry) and Frankie King, many nieces and nephews. Garland was the owner of Kings Auto Service Center where he started working as a teenager with his mother and father. He was well respected by his many customers, friends and colleagues. Garland was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and grandchildren. Papa King taught them all about deer hunting and fishing along with crabbing at the river. He will be dearly missed by his many life-long friends who showed their love and support for him over the last few weeks. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 3:00pm -7:00pm at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, Amelia Courthouse, and VA. Funeral services will be held 11 AM on Monday, October 31, 2011, at Hillsman-Hix with interment to follow services at Amelia Presbyterian Cemetery.
