James L. Hunter, age 87, of Amelia, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday Jan. 25, 2014. He was born on March 3, 1926 in Edwight, WV to Van and Asia Bradley Hunter. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert, sister Mary Meadows and son Stephen. He is survived by his devoted wife of thirty four years, Christine; children James (Glenda) Hunter of Petersburg, Mark Hunter and daughter Nancy Boucquin, both of Jacksonville, FL, Brian Jones of Chesterfield, and Tracey Harris (Stuart) of Amelia; nine grandchildren and one great grandson; his siblings Patricia Smith of Goshen, VA, and Eugene Hunter of Fredericksburg. Funeral services 2PM on Tuesday at Christ Episcopal Church in Amelia, VA with burial following at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia. Visiting at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home 16409 Court St. in Amelia on Monday evening from 6-8PM. Mr. Hunter served in the U. S. Army during WWII. He graduated from Marshall University earning a B. A. and continued graduate studies at Ohio State University. He was a long time employee of Eastern Airlines. His work for Eastern lead him to Orlando, Fla. Mr. Hunter never lost his love for Florida and retired to the Florida Keys after a long and distinguished career in Virginia State Government. He worked for the Virginia Employment Commission and the Virgiinia Commission for Children and Youth of which he was Director. He retired from the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services. Contributions may be made to either Christ Episcopal Church or donor's favorite charity.
