June Augusta Dowdy, June 14, 1931 September 9, 2011. Born in Richmond, VA and a former resident of Amelia, VA, June had been residing with her daughter since her illness in 2006. She fought a long and valiant battle against multiple myeloma. June was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Harry W. Dowdy of Amelia, VA. Left to cherish her memory is her loving daughter, Linda Rose of Newport News, VA, her grandsons Michael Rose, and his wife Cherie of Newport News and Jonathan Rose and his wife Michelle of Franklin, TN. The sunshine that brightened her days and her pride and joy were her beautiful great-grandchildren, Amber, Jasmine, Braydon and Ethan Rose. She was their little Gammy. Also remembering her fondly are a host of friends and family and former son-in-law Gary Rose. June was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Amelia County, VA. Services will be provided by Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home in Amelia, VA The family will receive family and friends at the funeral home on Monday September 12, from 1-3:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home immediately following, with Interment at Salem United Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd, Suite A-102, Newport News, VA 23606 in memory of June and Harry Dowdy.
