June Audrey Dean, age 91, from Richmond, VA went home on March 8, 2016 to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She resided at Our Lady of Hope in Henrico, VA for the past 3 years. Born in New Castle, PA on June 20, 1924, June was the daughter of Harry Ansley and Sophie Philomena Schladenhauffen Smith of 1223 Rebecca Street. June was happily committed in marriage to John Gale Dean Jr. for 68 years. June loved God and had, in these last years, an insatiable curiosity in these last years, about Heaven. Her next greatest joy was her family. She dearly loved her mother, her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. As a young adult, June was employed as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone of PA, which she enjoyed so much she said she would have worked there for free. June loved in a way that was unmatched by any other and had a sense of humor that was endearing, never taking herself too seriously. She is survived by her husband John Gale Dean Jr., her sons John "Jack" Wayne Dean (Sue) of Canonsburg, PA, Larry Smith Dean (Loretta) of Somerset, PA, daughter Gayle Audrey Mellis (Peter) of Richmond, three grandchildren: Jessica Audrey Cochrane (Robert) of Richmond, John Dean Jr., and Jacob Dean both of PA and great-grandchild Caleb Cochrane. June is predeceased by her parents, sisters Patricia "Patty" Smith, Dorothy Ziegler, and Shirley Smith and brothers Dallas "Bud" Smith, Robert "Bob" Smith and Donald "Donnie" Smith all of New Castle, PA. A celebration of June's life will be held at Third Church, 600 Forest Avenue in Henrico, VA, 23229 on Monday, March 14 at 12 noon.
