Obituary

Lisa Annette Davis, age 55 of Amelia, passed away on February 18, 2015. She was born February 1, 1960 in Harlingen, TX. She leaves behind her husband of 26 years, Merle Wilson Davis; three children: Dayna Ruth Reeves (Chris) of Varina, Bradley Ryan Davis (Samantha) of WI and Pake Levi Davis of Amelia; six grandchildren. Funeral services 2PM on Feb. 28, 2015 at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home 16409 Court St. Amelia, Va. with private interment. Visiting Friday evening Feb. 27, at the funeral home from 6-9PM. In lieu of flowers she requested donations to Massey Cancer Center or humane society of choice. At Age 3, her legal custody was given to her grandparents, Oscar and Florence Ransom of San Benito, TX who raised her. She became her grandpa's shadow at a very young age. Her grandfather was a gunsmith. By the age of 7, she was hunting deer with him. As a teenager she reloaded ammunition for hunters and law enforcement to earn summer spending money. As an adolescent, she performed for 12 years in competition baton twirling. She attended Texas Southmost College and University of Texas. In 1979 she married David William Manix and also had Dayna Ruth Manix. By 1982 Lisa and David divorced and she and Dayna moved from the Rio Grande Valley to Austin, TX. Six years later, she met the love of her life, Merle Wilson Davis. Merle had sole custody of his son Brad. He had a crush on her immediately… I would say he was very smitten. Merle and Lisa were neighbors and Brad and Dayna played a lot together. Through that and a lot of neighborhood block parties, they met and began to date. Lisa and Merle married on December 17, 1988. Lisa and Merle moved to VA in 1994 to be closer to family. She has barrel raced in rodeos in Texas, has an avid interest in photography, loved doing arts and crafts – she is very creative with endless ideas. She was active in the raising of her children, attending every ball game, serving as team mom, Girl Scout troop leader and "Cookie Czar." After moving to VA she settled on a position in IT as Project Manager at Fort Lee. She was instrumental in creating team involvement by creating team buildings and group functions. She and Merle acquired their land in Amelia in 2003 and built their dream house and farm "The Davis Farm." Soon after came horses, chickens, and last year pigs! This home began a tradition of family and friends gatherings like the annual Easter egg hunts, shoot outs.
