It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lois Marie Gills, age 79, who departed from this world on May 11, 2025 in Richmond, Virginia. She was born on September 26, 1945 in Burkeville, Virginia, to the late Herman and Jennie Mae Fowlkes. Preceding Lois in the afterlife are her beloved son Vincent Lee Gills, sisters Emma and Alice Chenault, brother Joe Fowlkes, niece Shirley Chenault, and other relatives who have gone before her. Lois was a cherished soul who touched the lives of many. She pursued her education within the Richmond Public Schools and later found fulfillment working at New City Optical in Richmond, Virginia. Left to cherish Lois's memory are her loving family members, sons Gene and Marcellus Gills, a daughter Rachel Chrissy Gills, 27 grandchildren, first born Kayanda Morris (Tayvon), two of whom she raised, Natalie Gills and Corey Medina (Walter), 30 great-grandchildren, sister Cleo Buchanan, two nieces Juliet and Charlene Chenault, a nephew Stephen Chenault (Margaret), and host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held on Sunday June 1, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, 16409 Court St in Amelia Court House, Virginia. Lois's kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love will forever be remembered by those who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing she was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
