King, Mamie Spainhour, 77, of Parkland, FL, formerly of Roanoke and Amelia, VA, passed away at home on Wednesday July 3, 2013.  Born on January 25, 1936 in Yadkin County, NC, she is the daughter of the late Raymond and Mallie Spainhour.  The family moved to Amelia, VA in 1942. In addition to her parents, she is pre-deceased by two sisters, Ruby Boyte, and Gladys O'Neal, and two brothers, Fred Spainhour and Jerel Spainhour.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years Retired LCDR USN Charles J. King, and loving family, daughter, Donna Hofer and her husband, Franz of Coral Springs, FL, son, C.J. King of Roanoke, VA; grandchildren, Tina Hofer Medico and her husband Angelo, Joey Hofer, Jamie King, Haley King and Grayson King; sisters, Betty Ingram (David), Peggy Davis (Archie), and brother, R.J. Spainhour; as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mamie was a gentle, loving person with a kind word for everyone.  She loved taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren, cooking, and gardening.  She volunteered with many schools and organizations both with her children and grandchildren.  She and Charles were avid square-dancers and traveled around the country for those events.  She was a shining military wife who showed strength and dignity raising their family across the world with her husband, Charles, while he served our Country.  Her moral character gave rise to intense family pride that we strive to live up to everyday, but her sacrifice for others is hers alone.  A beautiful soul has gone to her Lord and all she touched will cherish her memory and above all, we will miss her.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 10 from 6-8:00pm at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, 16409 Court St. in Amelia.

A chapel service is scheduled for 11:00 on Thursday, July 11 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Arbor Baptist Church Cemetery.
