Marcie French "Gus" Guthrie passed away Saturday, August 5, 2023. Gus was preceded in death by his father Aubin Lee Guthrie, step-mother Shirley Ruth Guthrie, father-in-law Richard Clifton, sister Vivian Weirup and his beloved grandson Isaac Lewis Guthrie. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Sherry Clifton Guthrie, daughter Susan Nicole Newton, son Andrew Lewis Guthrie (Nicole), mother-in-law Pearl Fleming Clifton, sister Velma Morton, grandchildren Tiffany Nicole Middlebrook (Jimmy), Matthew Wayne Middlebrook, Amanda Lynn Middlebrook, great-grandchildren MacKenzie Aeryn Middlebrook and Madelynn Nicole Mahon, his loving four-legged companion Roody J and numerous other loving extended family members and friends.

Gus worked at VDOT for 32 years. The majority of his career was enjoyed at Powhatan VDOT headquarters as superintendent. After his retirement he enjoyed a second career of driving dump trucks with many close friends.

Gus was truly loved by his family and he'll be dearly missed. In our hearts and loving memories forever.

Visitation will be held at Hillsman Hix Funeral Home Tuesday, August 8, from 2-4pm & 6-8pm. Funeral services will held at Hillsman Hix funeral home Wednesday, August 9, at 11:00am. Interment at Mt. Hope Baptist Church.
