It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of Norman Elton Hutchens, who left this world peacefully on July 25, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on May 3, 1934, in Chula, Virginia, Norman was a lifelong resident of Amelia County, where his heart and spirit truly belonged.

A proud United States Air Force veteran, Norman enlisted on August 4, 1954, and served honorably until his discharge on May 5, 1958, reaching the rank of A/1C (P). He carried the values of dedication and service throughout his life, which were evident in his 30-year career at the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), where he made many friends and left a lasting impact.

Norman will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Debbie Childress and Carla Daniel, and his three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vida, and grandson Billy, who will surely greet him with open arms. As a devoted member of Arbor Baptist Church, Norman found joy in his faith. He spent many Friday nights at American Legion Post 93 during Bingo.

Those who knew Norman were well aware of his passion for fishing and his knack for tinkering with lawnmowers and clocks. He had a unique ability to find happiness in the simple things, and his warm smile and hearty laughter will be missed by all who had the privilege to share in his life.

Friends and family will gather to celebrate Norman's incredible life at funeral services to be held at Arbor Baptist Church on [insert future date here]. Following the service, Norman will be laid to rest at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Rd., Amelia Court House, VA 23002, where his spirit will forever be intertwined with the land he loved.
