October 30, 1947 – January 25, 2025
Paul Farmer, 77, of Staunton, formerly of Amelia, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Maylon and Lula Mae Farmer, and leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Kathleen Munden Farmer; a son, Paul Farmer, Jr., of Amelia; and a sister, Priscilla F. Horton of Richmond.
Paul was born in Kingsport, Tennessee, moving with his family to Amelia as a young boy. He was a devoted husband and father and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he was with the Green Berets with the U.S. 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne).
Paul was a tractor trailer driver for many years. He was particularly proud of the many service awards he received for safe driving. He retired with over 30 years service to Overnite Transportation and UPS Freight. He enjoyed the many friendships he made through the years. Many a trucker is familiar with the handle of Wooden Nickel on the radio. Being known as someone who could fix almost anything, he enjoyed working on cars and most anything else in his spare time.
Paul was a life member of both the Amelia Masonic Lodge and the Amelia post of the VFW.
Remains rest with Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home in Amelia. The family with receive friends on Saturday, February 1, from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, February 2, at 3 pm at the Amelia Presbyterian Church cemetery. Members of Masonic Lodge 101 will conduct masonic services Sat. at 6PM at the funeral home.
