Rachel Ashman Bowlin of Amelia, VA went to be with her Lord on September 7, 2013 at the age of 101 ½, surrounded by her family.  Mrs. Bowlin was born on March 5, 1912 in Amelia, VA to James W. Ashman Sr. and Lillie Roberts Ashman.  She married Clifford F. Bowlin on June 17, 1931.

Mrs. Bowlin was predeceased by her husband on November 20, 1970.   Also, predeceased by her parents & 6 brothers & 1 sister.  She is survived by her 6 children:  H. Bruce Bowlin (Betty), Evelyn Lowery (Harold), Annie Mae Reyna (Don), Samuel Bowlin (Jackie), Nancy Coffman (Tom), & Alice Bowlin.  Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren: Debbie Southall Williamson, Keith Southall, Melanie Lowery Poole, Janith Golden Carrington, Steven Reyna, Vanessa Lowery Jones, Diane Southall Lovell, Russell Lowery, Michael Reyna, Cheryl Southall Fulghum, Michael B. Bowlin, Carol Bruce Bowlin Epperson, Amy Bowlin Terlitsky, Brian Bowlin, Neal Bowlin, Nancy Lowery Siems, & Bruce A. Bowlin;  31 great-grandchildren & 11 great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by one sister, Lily Mae Byrd, & many nieces and nephews.  The family will receive friends at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home in Amelia, VA on Monday evening, September 9, 2013 from 6 pm – 8 pm.   A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 2:00 pm , followed by Interment in Pine Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery.  Flowers are welcome or donations in her memory to Mattoax Presbyterian Church, 14600 Chula Rd., Amelia, VA 23002
