IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Byrd
Arrington
June 19, 1933 – August 21, 2022
Robert Byrd Arrington (89), a proud Army veteran of the 101st airborne ( screaming eagles), was born on June 19,1933 and went to be with the Lord Aug 21,2022. He lived in Amelia all his life except while in Germany during the Korean war. He is preceded in death by his parents Bernard Nathan Arrington and Glaspy Williams Arrington and sisters Ruth A Talbot, Molly A Moyer, Bernice A Mizell. He is survived by sisters Alice A Burnet and JoAnn A Painter, cousins, Kenny and Daniel Barnard, and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bobby was well known in Amelia for his 83 year long hobby/love of beekeeping and for his years of volunteering at the Goochland Field Days of the Past running old steam engines and the stave mill. Some would also say Bobby was a local historian, telling stories of our local history as well as things he had witnessed in his travels over many years. Bobby's love of keeping busy and drive to stay young was clear to the eye of any passerby that saw him cutting firewood and stacking it meticulously, or climbing a ladder twice as tall as his truck was long to catch a swarm of bees in the middle of spring. Bobby was known by several generations of children that he grew to love like family as their "real Santa" or their "Mountain Man". His long, white beard was fitting of both of those titles. He loved to tell stories of his trip with his best friend, Arthur Lehman to Alaska- always making sure to point out it was before Alaska was a state. In these stories, he was sure to make you feel like you were there with his describing living off of the land and the excitement that came along with living in the wilderness. Bobby's life had many, many chapters. So many, it could not be contained in one book. His adventures and his love for living a life with no schedule would require a whole library.
