Roy L. Collins, 81, of Amelia, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn L. Collins, and his son Roy L. Collins, Jr.  He is survived by his daughter, Arnita Patterson(Reggie), his son Tim Collins(Carolyn); his six grand-children, Kicky(Alexis), Jennifer, Dew(Timothy), Erica, Tre'(Reggie III), Austin; and nine great-grand-children.  Sisters, Irene Sumner, Peggy Hamilton, Cathy Layne; numerous nieces and nephews.  In Roy's young adulthood, he loved to play the guitar, sing and write songs.  He would teach his children songs and have them sing when family would visit them.  He bought a house with acreage in Amelia, raised animals and grew a huge garden each year to feed his family.  He loved telling stories of him growing up in the mountains of Norton, Va.  He retired from ICI, to a better life of boating and fishing with his wife, growing his garden, canning, and riding his tractor. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 13, 2023, from 6-9p.m., at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, 16409 Court St., Amelia, VA.  Funeral services will be Friday, July 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home;  then burial at 1:00 p.m., at Bermuda Memorial Park in Chester, VA.
