Ruth Dodson Russell, born February 15, 1929 peacefully passed away on May 9. She was born in Chula, VA to Muncie and Sybil Dodson. She was known as "the songbird" leading students in chapel singing . She married the love of her life, Jimmie Russell and had 4 children. James Michael(Norma), Muncie(Paulette), Jerry(Laurie) and Sheryl(Karl). They were also blessed with grandchildren: Nichole(Marty), Joshua, Brooke(Tim), Tory(Brett), Haley, Braden and great grandchildren Brenna, Olivia, Addison, Maxwell, Stella, Ford and Lylah. Predeceased by her parents, Muncie and Sybil, a sister Audrey Utz and a life long friend Ann Shumaker. Survived by her brother, Aubrey (Blanton), brother in law Chuck Utz(Bess), sister Ramona Clopton and multiple nieces, nephews and cousins. She recently moved to assisted living where her best friend of 89 years, Frances Denny resides. Ruth loved Mathews county where she lived for the last 20 years and all the abundant nature there. She was also a voracious reader, traveller, crafter, homemaker and decorator(especially at Christmas!). A charter member of St. Luke's Methodist Church in Chesterfield, Co.where many friends and neighbors still attend. Visitation will be at Hillsman Hix Funeral Home, 16409 Court St. in Amelia Court House, VA 23002 on May 12 from 6-8PM. Funeral services on May 13 at 11AM at same location.
