Thomas "Paul" Cook, Jr., of Amelia, made his transition into heaven on January 21, 2025, on his 60th birthday from an apparent heart attack. He was preceded in death by his brother Duane McMillion Cook. He is survived by his loving wife, Diana Anderson Cook (30 years), daughter Jessica E. Cook, son Thomas P. Cook, III, his father Thomas P. Cook, Sr. of Midlothian, his mother, Faye Marshall of Amelia, one grand-daughter, Joslynn Rose Winchester, one sister, Cynthia C. Johnson (Skibo), of Glen Allen, two nephews, Ryland Johnson (Allison), and Ridge Johnson (Kim), two great nephews, Forrest and Knox Johnson, and one great niece, Brynne Johnson.
Paul retired January 11, 2024, from Ingersoll Rand as a Service Technician after 34 1/2 years. He was a loving father, a loving son, and loved teaching young boys about the outdoors and mechanics of life. Paul was a member, Deacon and Trail Life Guide for Troop #1771 of Sandy Creek Baptist Church, Cubmaster for Amelia Cub Scout Pack 6501 for approximately 9 years, and Volunteer helper for the Amelia Bingo. Paul was not a Military Veteran but enjoyed helping and socializing with Military Veterans. He had great respect and honor for the men and women who have served our country and protected our freedom.
The Powhatan Veterans of Foreign Wars awarded Paul a plaque in 1999 with gratitude for his assistance to the Veterans of Foreign Wars during the Powhatan County Christmas Parade for meritorious and distinguished Service in furthering the aims and ideals of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.
Paul was recognized by the Amelia American Legion in 2015 as Scout of the Year, in 2024 as Volunteer of the Year, and on January 16, 2025, as an honorary member of the Amelia American Legion.
His passing was a shock to all. Paul was loved by so many for his loving heart, contagious smile and his giddy humor. He always had a smile, and he always gave a smile. Paul deeply loved his family, church, friends and community and he will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 31 from 6 to 8 PM at the Hillsman-Hix funeral home 16409 Court St. in Amelia.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 1 at 11 AM at Sandy Creek Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
