Thomas Walton Eppes, Sr. of Amelia, Virginia passed quietly on November 15, 2013.  Born in Crewe, Virginia on October 10, 1926 to Benjamin Peebles Eppes and Cora Lee Andrews Eppes, he was a graduate of Crewe High School. He finished the Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy in 1947 at the age of 20. Mr. Eppes opened Eppes Pharmacy in Amelia in 1955 which became the cornerstone of downtown Amelia. To many residents of Amelia he was known as "Dr. Eppes".

Community service was a hallmark of Mr. Eppes' public life. He was a founding member of the Amelia Lions Club and the Amelia Rescue Squad. Mr. Eppes was a director of the Union Bank and Trust Company (Wells Fargo). He served on the Amelia Planning Commission from 1967-1994 and as chairman from 1977-1988. He was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Chuch, singing in the choir and served as treasurer for over 20 years.

Mr. Eppes is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Meek Eppes; one son, Dr. Thomas W. Eppes, Jr. (Clarkie) of Lynchburg; one daughter, Katherine A. Eppes of Bedford, two grandsons, Thomas Andrews Eppes of Los Angeles, California; Captain John Robert Eppes (Lindsay)of Virginia Beach; one granddaughter Sarah-Wynne Breckenridge Eppes of Washington D,C,; two great grandchildren, Lillian Alston and Bennett Jefferson Eppes; one brother, John L. Eppes (Ann) of Richmond and many nieces and nephews.
