Velma Lurene Thurston, age 87, of Amelia, passed from this life on November 9, 2012.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard James Thurston and is survived by her daughter, Elaine Lee of Amelia, brother, Franklin Monday of Bedford, Va. and sisters Alice Cave of Sandston, Va. and Lelia Zaun of Amelia, and eight grandchildren.  Funeral services 1:00PM on Monday at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home with interment in Mizpah Church Cemetery in Goochland.  Visiting at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6-8PM.
