Obituary

Gaglio, Victor, 87, of Amelia, passed away at home on January 29, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pietro and Girolma Gaglio and his sister Jackie Aparo. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jennie V. Gaglio, his children Peter and his wife Deborah of Midlothian, Carl of Midlothian, and Victor and his wife Gayle of Charleston, WV; five grandchildren, Meredith, Kate, Elizabeth, John and Peter; and his brother Sal and wife Virginia of Pawling, NY. He served in the US Marine Corp during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. After the war he attended Columbia University and worked as a draftsman for General Bronze. He was a Production/Plant manager for numerous sheetmetal shops and his work brought him to New York, Philadelphia and Toronto, Canada before moving to the Richmond area with his family in 1967 to take a job as Plant Manager of Richmond Metal Products. In 1973 he became the owner of Victor Gaglio Machine and Welding in Richmond and operated the business until 1980, at which time he accepted a position with VA Correctional Enterprises at the Buckingham Correctional Center to set up and manage a sheet metal production facility where he worked until he retired in 1991. In retirement he took up many hobbies including ornamental metalwork, woodworking and oil painting. He always kept busy at his revered workshop with various projects for family and friends. He was a member of the Amelia Masonic Lodge and was an avid volunteer at festivals and events in Amelia County that earned him the nickname of French Fry King. Many thanks go out to the caring doctors, nurses, technicians and staff of the Davita Dialysis Center of Amelia, St. Francis Medical Center and Bon Secour Home Hospice. The family will receive friends at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, 16409 Court St., on Monday January 31 from 4-6 p.m. with a Masonic service at 6. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 1, with burial to follow at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Amelia County Library or Bon Secour Hospice.
