Obituary

Virginia Jones Porter of Amelia, VA, formerly of Varina, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday January 14, 2024. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ina "Grace", her husband William E. "Junie" Porter, Jr., sons Leslie Wayne and Jeffrey Carl Sr., grandson Jeffrey Carl, Jr., and son-in-law Edward McCready. Virginia is survived by her son William E. Porter III (Charlotte) of Richmond, daughters Susan McCready of Victoria, Cynthia Terry (Christian) of Amelia, and Mary Anne Sweeney (Paul) of Clayton, NC; daughter in law Brenda Porter; grandchildren Kristopher Norman, Amy Barker (David), Michael Stahl (Melissa), Matthew Terry, David Terry (Anna), Andrew Sweeney (Melanie), Shannon Black (Michael), and 14 great-grandchildren. Born January 2, 1933 in Altoona, PA, Virginia at the age of 12 relocated with her mother to Chesterfield, VA. She married her husband of 56 years in 1948 and they raised their six children in Chesterfield, VA. In 1981 Virginia developed Reflex Sympathetic Nerve Dystrophy and went on to found the Richmond R.S.D. Association, a support group for victims of the chronic pain of R.S.D. The family would like to thank Jennifer and Shawn Easter of Easter Haven Private Home Care for the excellent, loving care they provided to our mother. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 19th at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, 16409 Court St. in Amelia, with funeral services to held at 12 noon. Interment will be private at Dale Memorial Park, Chesterfield, VA.
