Obituary

William Euclid Carnes, 85, of New Kent County, Virginia passed away on September 24, 2026. He was born in Rome, Georgia and is the son of the late William C. and Elizabeth Carnes, and Eulah Butler. He is preceded in death by his son, William E. Carnes Jr., brothers, David Carnes and Forrest Carnes. Bill was a 1960 graduate of Thomas Dale High School. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, completing a tour in Vietnam. He attained the rank of Sergeant before his honorable discharge. He was a very talented artist who enjoyed sharing his art with his family and friends. He loved attending area art shows where he could socialize and also share his art with others. He was employed by Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company prior to retiring as a Maintenance Engineer from Honeywell Technologies. He is survived by Susie Wells, his companion of more than 50 years and daughters, Tanya Rosser and Bill and Crystal Burkett and Gil; his brother, Thomas Carnes and Gloria and his sister, Catherine Cooper; and many other special family members. Euclid, Duke and Bill are a few names he was lovingly called by his family and friends, but for the last 32 years he was passionately loved as "Bop" or "Boppie" by his grandchildren that he loved very much, Paxton Kochuba and Christian, Greyson Pierce and Haley, Hank Rosser and Meghan, Jacob Carnes, and Thomas Sawka. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center for the amazing care and military honors they bestowed on Bill during his short illness. It was everything he so deserved but more than we would have ever expected. In his honor contributions can be made to the Department of Veterans Affairs or your special military organization. A graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, October 2, 2026 in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Road, Amelia Courthouse, VA 23002 with Chaplain Elliott Deilus officiating.
