Charles F. Moyer, Jr. (91), of Amelia, passed this life on September 7, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Barbara Faye Heath Moyer. He is survived by his four children, Larkin (Cecelia), Charlene (Martin), Damon (Pam) all of Amelia, and Darrell (Lorraine) of Georgia. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Stacy (Bill), Alicia (Bruce), Jeremy (Sara), Damon, Taylor (Leah), Brandon (Ginny), Heath, and Cole, and nine great grandchildren, Katie, Peyton, Molly, Anna, Lacey, Sutton, Annabelle, Paxton, and Carter.
Charles was a lifelong dairy farmer, who took over his grandfather’s farm, Oakmulgee Dairy, in the late 1960’s. The farm is the longest continuously operating family dairy in the state. He was State President of the FFA in 1950. After high school he went to Virginia Tech where he played in the Highty Tighties band for a short time before returning to the farm.
He served on the Amelia County School Board and throughout the years has been on many state and national industry boards and committees. He has been President of Virginia State Dairymen’s Association, Virginia Holstein Association and on the Executive Committees for Select Sires, Dairyman Inc. and Dairy Farmers of America. He also earned FFA’s American Farmer Degree, Virginia Holstein Associations Distinguished Service and Virginia’s Outstanding Farm Family awards. He was inducted into the Livestock Hall of Fame at Virginia Tech. He and his wife loved to travel and visited all 50 states. Charles was a long-time member of the Amelia Ruritan Club.
He was a lifetime member of Pine Grove Church, and he loved music, dancing, telling stories about the good old days, and listening to his great grandchildren play various instruments.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Sunday September 10 at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, 16409 Court. St. in Amelia. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday September 11, at the funeral home, with private burial to follow.
