Emma Rand Farrar of Burkeville died on May 13, 2018 at her home. She was the daughter of James Dallas and Martha Holman Rand of Amelia. She was preceded in death by her husband, MacLean Bacon Farrar; by her brother, James Holman Rand; by her sister, Mary Frances Rand; and by her grandson, Talmadge Abbitt DuPriest.
Mrs. Farrar is survived by her two daughters, Martha Scott Farrar and Barclay Farrar DuPriest (Rob); by her grandson, Rand MacLean DuPriest (Melanie); and by her great-granddaughter, Sydney Abbitt DuPriest.
A 1939 graduate of Harrisonburg State Teachers College (JMU), Mrs. Farrar taught the seventh grade at Burkeville School for eight years. From 1976 until 1986, she operated Burke’s Store Antiques. Mrs. Farrar was a member of the Burkeville Presbyterian Church; of the Daughters of the American Revolution; and of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was Chairman of Nottoway County’s Bicentennial Celebration and served for countless years as one of Burkeville’s unofficial historians.
