George Edward Hamlett, 82, of Midlothian, Virginia moved on to his heavenly resting place surrounded by family on Sunday, November 22, 2020. He was born September 29, 1938 to Clyde and Margaret Hamlett in Amelia, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Russell Hamlett and David Hamlett. Ed is survived by his devoted wife, Doris Hall Hamlett, to whom he was married for 61 years, and his sister, Doris Hamlett Pullen. He is also survived by his son, Keith Edward Hamlett (Christine) and daughter Shelly Nadine Hamlett Bazemore (Scott). He was the very proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Maria Hamlett Black (Matthew), Christian Edward Hamlett (Courtney), Michael Scott Bazemore (Megan), Christopher Tanner Bazemore, and Anna Nicole Hamlett. Nothing made him happier than watching them participate in sports activities, cheering and dancing.
Ed served four years in the United States Air Force in Roswell, New Mexico before returning to settle in Chesterfield, Virginia. He was employed as a City of Richmond fireman for sixteen years then worked in heating and air conditioning until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the Tomahawk Ruritan Club, volunteered at the Richmond Veterans Administration Hospital for 10+ years, and belonged to Tomahawk Baptist Church. He enjoyed farming, collecting coins and played a mean game of dominos.
The family will have a private family service due to current restrictions related to the pandemic. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the caring staff at Sitter and Barfoot Veterans Care Center where Ed resided for the past fourteen months, as well as to the many friends who provided prayers and support to the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Richmond Chapter, 4600 Cox Road Suite 130, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
