Colonel Gerald “Jerry” Frank Wyngaard, US Air Force Retired, of Amelia passed away February 17, 2022 in the presence of his loving family. He proudly served as an officer in the Air Force for 27 years after graduating from the Air Force Academy. Upon retirement, he began teaching math and coaching high school football. He carried his teaching to Riverside Regional Jail for several years in a prison ministry. After earning a degree in theology from Loyola University, he completed studies to become a Catholic Deacon. He faithfully served in this capacity at Good Samaritan and St. Gabriel’s Catholic Churches. He will be remembered for his endless enthusiasm and generous heart.
He is survived by his wife, Candy Wyngaard, five children, daughters April Guminsky and husband Michael, Rebecca Wright and husband Tucker, son Todd Wyngaard and wife Kim, son David Wyngaard and wife Thelma, and son Peter Wyngaard and wife Patty. He is also survived by siblings Jack Wyngaard, Judy Ebert and Joe Wyngaard. Jerry was actively involved with his 15 grandchildren. A Rosary service will held at 3:00PM on Wednesday Feb. 23, 2022 at Good Samaritan Catholic Church in Amelia. A Christian Wake service will be held with visitation at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church on Winterpock Road in Chesterfield from 5:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday February 23, 2022. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held also at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Chesterfield at 11:00 AM on Thursday Feb. 24, 2022. Burial will be at 11 AM on Friday Feb. 25, 2022 at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery 10300 Pridesville Rd. in Amelia with full military honors.
