John Albert Niebauer

JOHN ALBERT NIEBAUER, September 5,  1938 - November 25, 2019.  age 81, of Amelia, VA, passed away on November 25, 2019 at home. John was a graduate of the University of Louisville with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.  He married Rose Marie Meyer of Louisville, his wife of 58 years.  John was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. As a Lieutenant JG he saw service in the blockade of Cuba during the Missile Crisis.  Returning to Louisville after active duty, he earned his master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering. His professional career included positions at Bechtel and Fluor-Daniel.  John is survived by his wife Rose Marie; children Eric Niebauer (Marivi) of Johnson City, TN, and Valerie Batterson (Paul) of Amelia VA; grandchildren Dustin and Drew Niebauer, and Noah, Isaac, and Gabriel  Batterson; brother Paul (Kathryn) of Simpsonville, SC, sister Barbara Smith (Richard) of Versailles, KY; and was preceded in death by his parents Felix and Loretta of Louisville, KY and brother Steven (Christy) of Greensboro, NC.  Visitation will take place on Monday, December 2, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, 16409 Court Street, Amelia, VA 23002.  A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at 11:45AM on Tuesday December 3, 2019 at Good Samaritan Catholic Church in Amelia, with graveside service to follow at Virginia Veterans Cemetery.
