Kyle Winter Obituary

Kyle Ivar Winter, 56, took his last breath on this earth on February 3, 2022, surrounded by family.  Born in Middletown, New York, he was the son of Robert Cornelius Winter and Donna Louise Sullivan. He graduated from New York Military Academy at the age of 15. While attending NYMA he received many awards including their highest honor, Superior Cadet. He graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1985 and was commissioned into the U.S. Navy. From 1987-1990, he was assigned to the USS Alabama as a Division Officer, where he was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal.   In 1985, he acquired his B.S., Chemistry and earned commissioned in the U.S. Navy. He later completed the nuclear power training pipeline. He is remembered for his powerful and beautiful voice and his love of music.  In 1991, he began working as an Environmental Engineer for Virginia Department of Environmental Quality where he continued to work up until his death. Through hard work and dedication he advanced to the position of Deputy Regional Director with DEQ .  Kyle was an active member in his church and in the community. Leading as an example among the youth as a soccer coach and program coordinator; he mentored children on the field and off. He was an advocate for God in his life. He was extremely giving and loved to share in any way he could, whether it was with his own family, the children he mentored and coached, through missions’, or the feeding ministry within his church. If there was a way he could talk about God’s goodness, he would make it happen! His legacy lives on through his family as well as the Amelia community.  Kyle will be remembered as the world’s best husband, a devoted dad, a loving grandpa, and a warrior for God. He enjoyed time with his family grilling, playing games, and building memories. He was passionate about many things including swimming, powerlifting, and cheering his kids and grandkids on from the sidelines. He loved reading, writing, and singing.   Kyle was survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Dolores Winter; children Kyle Winter, Nicole Riahi, Ashley Mederos, Hannah Griffin, Leah Winter, Jon Winter, Jacob Winter and Magnus Winter; his mother, Donna Sullivan; his sister Kim Keller; and his grandchildren Riley, Claire, Madeleine, Aryelle, Sawyer, Lucas, Logan, and Arianna. He was predeceased by his father Robert Winter.   A memorial service will be held in Kyle’s honor on February 19th  at 2pm at Christ Family Outreach located at 12300 Five Forks Rd, Amelia, VA 23002.  Internment will follow at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery Amelia at 10300 Pridesville Road, Amelia, VA 23002.
