Maureen (Larkin) Wright, age 87, of Amelia, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on December 7, 2012, with loved ones at her side. Mrs. Wright was born in Austerlitz, New York and raised in the upstate New York town of Chatham. Mrs. Wright received a degree in nursing from the University of Colorado at Boulder and had a long and notable career as a Registered Nurse. She worked for many years at the Veteran’s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia and taught nursing at John Tyler Community College. Mrs. Wright volunteered for numerous causes, including as a literacy mentor and school nurse in Amelia. Mrs. Wright loved nature and animals. She had a devoted following of birds in her backyard and delighted in watching them at her many bird feeders. Her favorites were the cardinals in winter and the variety of hummingbirds in spring and summer. Mrs. Wright was also a talented writer who routinely entertained her extended family with her humorous musings. For many years Mrs. Wright enjoyed an annual autumn trip to upstate New York to spend time with family and enjoy the beautiful foliage, while taking forays to Vermont and the Adirondack Mountains. Mrs. Wright was particularly proud of her Irish heritage, her father having emigrated from Ireland in the 1920s, and was very close to several of her Irish cousins. Mrs. Wright was predeceased by her beautiful daughter Caitlin (Wright) Binning, brothers Charles, Francis, Brian, Maurice (her twin) and Dennis, and sister Alicin Pike. She is survived by her son Sean Wright, of Schuyler, Virginia and a multitude of nieces and nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM on Sunday February 19, 2023 at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home with the family receiving friends prior to the service at 12:30PM. .
