Rebecca Anne Russell, aged 51, passed away 5/3/2021 after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Becky’s strong faith led her to be very active in her church, St. Edward the Confessor, where she taught religious education since the early 2000s. She served on the Pastoral Council for several years, and before the COVID-19 precautions were set in place, she also enjoyed her duties as one of the sacristans during Mass. A library worker since her 16th birthday, Becky was a much-loved figure at the James L. Hamner Public Library since 2001, serving first as a volunteer, then, in 2010, as a librarian on staff, and finally as the head of Technical Services. Becky leaves behind her partner of 29 years, Dora Rowe of Midlothian, VA and her parents, James and Christine Russell of Centennial, CO. She is also survived by her sister, Rachel Tandy (Simon) and her nephew and godson, Jack Bridges, all of Teignmouth, UK, as well as many heartbroken aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. A funeral Mass will be offered at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Richmond on Saturday, 5/22/2021 at 10 am. Her final wishes included that in lieu of flowers, all memorial donations be sent to the Evelyn D. Reinhart Guest House of Bon Secours St. Mary's in gratitude for their immense support throughout her illness.
