Robert Franklin Lane (Bob), age 93, entered into heaven on December 30, 2020. Bob was born September 3, 1927 in Baltimore Md. To Frank Lane and Frances Peatros Lane. Bob grew up Caroline County, Va. and is preceded in death by his parents, sister Jacqueline Lane and brother, Stuart Peatros Lane and is survived by his wife; Fern Southall Lane, sons, Stephen M. Lane (Judy), Mark Southall Lane, Tracy Franklin Lane (Angela), six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Bob graduated from Virginia Tech in 1948 with a B. S. in Agriculture. He received his Masters Degree in Education from Longwood University and taught Agriculture at the Amelia High School from 1949-1964. He then served as Headmaster at the Amelia Academy until 1981. Bob finished his teacher career teaching math at Swift Creek Middle School in Chesterfield, Va. Bob and Fern loved to take day and weekend trips to the Blue Ridge Mountains where they enjoyed the trails. He also enjoyed playing golf with his friends at the Amelia Golf Course when he lived in Amelia. Pike fishing was one of his favorites when he fished in the Mattaponi River in Caroline County. He also had a passion for trading in the stock market and enjoyed growing tomatoes in his garden and they were second to none. While living in Amelia he attended Trinity United Methodist Church and after moving to Hanover County taught Sunday School at St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Goochland County. Graveside services will be held 2PM Saturday January 2, 2021 at the Southall Family Cemetery on Selma Road in Jetersville, Va. Visitation will be held at the Amelia Academy Auditorium Friday from 2PM to 5PM. In lieu of flowers donation made be made to your favorite charity.
