Rosemary (Shifley) Smith

Rosemary Smith, 83 of Chesterfield, Virginia passed away Sunday, June 25, 2023 with her family by her side.

Rosemary was born June 28, 1939 in Sandusky Township, Ohio to Earl and Bertha Shifley. She moved from Ohio to Virginia in 1968 with her late husband, Wayne Smith.

In 2008, she retired as a Civil Service Employee of the United States Marine Corp at The Basic School after nearly 25 years of outstanding service.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Smith, 2013 and her son, Jeffrey Smith, 1996.

Survivors include her daughter, Pamella Torkelson, and her husband, Charles of Powhatan; brother, Arvin Shifley of Mansfield, Ohio, and grandchildren Joshua and his wife, Robyn of Fredericksburg and Laurel Torkelson of Chesterfield.  She had four great grandchildren Madilynn, Carter, Wyatt and Avery.

She was a loving mom and a faithful and devoted Christian woman.  She placed membership with Courthouse Church of Christ in Chesterfield in 2021.  She adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them most of all.  She enjoyed going to the beach with her family, playing Mah-Jongg with friends and water aerobics.  She made the best cinnamon rolls that her family looked forward to every Christmas.

She was a three time multiple myeloma cancer survivor therefore the family ask that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society in her name.
