Shirley Lee White Bishop went home to be with her Lord on August 11, 2017. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years, Corbie Clyde Bishop, Jr.
She was born September 13, 1936 to Bessie and Tunstall White of Farber, Virginia and spent her young years in Charlottesville. During the 1950’s-1970’s, she worked at Southern Bank and Trust Company and the Hotel John Marshall in Richmond. She and her husband owned the Colonnade Shoppe in Amelia for several years, before moving to Mooresville, NC in 1979 where Clyde worked for Yellow Freight Systems.
Shirley was a former member of Sherbourne Avenue Methodist Church in Richmond, Rennie Memorial Presbyterian Church in Amelia and Faith Presbyterian Church in Mt. Mourne, NC, where she was active in the WOC and taught Sunday School for many years. She is now a member of Amelia Baptist Church.
Surviving are her daughters, Marsha Busic and Gwyneth Parsons (Robbie), grandchildren Daniel Parsons (Michelle), Nichole Henderson, great grandchildren Austin and Alexis Henderson and William Parsons. She is also survived by her sisters Anne Gosnell of Middleburg, VA and Hazel Price of Woodland Hills, CA and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation is 6-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday August 15 at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, 16409 Court St. in Amelia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday August 16 at Amelia Baptist Church with burial to follow in Rennie Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Amelia Baptist Church or charity of your choice.
