Virgie Barden, who passed away peacefully on January 28, 2021, was born on December 14, 1928 at Haw Branch Plantation in Amelia, VA, the fourth of twelve children. Predeceased by all but 3, including her parents Benjamin and Bertha Sexton. Virgie was married to the love of her life for 62 years, Everette Eugene “John” who passed in December 2007. Virgie cherished her life on their farm where they settled 60 plus years ago on the Appomattox River in Powhatan. Virgie loved her church which she walked to as a child every Sunday. Virgie was an avid flower and vegetable gardener, but her #1 priority was being a wife and mother, and she set the bar high. Left to cherish her memories are her three children, John Douglas Barden of Powhatan, Sharon Schwartz of Henrico, and Janet Newton of Powhatan; grandchildren Michael Schwartz (Starry) of Henrico, James Mullins (Robin) of Powhatan; and great grandchild Holden of Powhatan. Virgie will lie in state on Tuesday, February 2 from 12 noon-5:00 p.m. at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, 16409 Court St. in Amelia. A graveside service will be held at Union Baptist Cemetery in Amelia, at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3.
